Kitchen Tools

There are two things that every Puerto Rican cook needs in their kitchen, for sure! You'll need to have a good 'caldero' (pot, cauldron). There are so many choices these days. I still love my old faithful aluminum caldero, which I bought from El Colmandito.

I also highly recommend investing in a good quality Pilón (mortar and pestle). I have loved the one my Mom used since I was a child. It's from Puerto Rico and has 'El Morro" painted on it...very cool! I've seen Pilóns every where from KMart to WallyWorld and some true beauties online!

In my opinion, wearing a really cute/fun little apron always helps me to cook better...really! I got the one below from KMart. That ginormous avocado was sent to Dad and me from a loving friend in P.R....Thanks Elena!

One more must have is this book called "Puerto Rican Cookery"
